If you're anything like me, you love listening in on Spaces on X! With the latest updates, I'm excited about the potential as a listener, but also as someone interested in hosting, co-hosting, and speaking more someday.

X is stepping up its game for live audio and video. In a recent Spaces discussion, which you can listen in full quote-posted below, X Media Lead Engineer Mark Kalman revealed upcoming upgrades that could shake up the livestreaming world. Let's dive in.

Co-Host Video & Chat

Next week, X rolls out advanced Video Spaces allowing co-hosts to appear on video during a Space. The top priority is enabling multiple speakers on video simultaneously in Spaces. This opens up possibilities like virtual podcasts or roundtable discussions. However, a gradual rollout is planned to avoid overloading X's systems.

Live Chat & Monetization

Live chat is coming to Spaces, starting on web then mobile apps. This also unlocks potential for super chats - paid comments that get highlighted. A new way for creators to earn from their audiences.

Algorithm Improvements

X is working to fix issues with Space links being deprioritized in timeline algorithms, limiting reach. Improved notifications will also drive viewers to live Spaces.

A "Media" Tab

A dedicated Media tab may use personalized algorithms to surface relevant livestreams, VODs and Spaces content tailored to each user's interests.

More Possibilities

Other upgrades teased include ticketed Spaces returning, screen sharing, full video conferencing, downloadable recordings for editing by hosts, and timestamp chapters in replays.

Unconfirmed Rumors

Some rumored but unconfirmed features include profile "Live" sections, podcast recording integrations like Riverside to improve recording capabilities, and gifting paid viewer "subs."

The Future of Live Content

Overall, these upgrades show X is serious about enhancing live capabilities to compete with Twitch, YouTube and others in the livestreaming space. Creators and viewers have an exciting road ahead on X.

I'm excited to take advantage of these new features when they become available! What do you think? Let me know in the replies to the thread below!
